GeoGroup History
A LEGACY OF GROWTH AND SPECIALISATION | 1989-2006
The foundation of the GEOGROUP was laid in 1989 by the late Dave Rossiter. Initially trading as Geomechanics CC, now GEOMECHANICS (PTY) LTD., the company focused on servicing the essential geotechnical investigations market. This early commitment to ground stability and engineering excellence set the stage for sustained growth and diversification.
Recognising the industry’s evolving needs, the Group expanded its capabilities into the mineral exploration market in 2000. This strategic move positioned the GeoGroup as a key partner in unlocking Southern Africa’s valuable resources.
Further cementing our dedication to empowerment and local industry development, GEOMECH AFRICA (PTY) LTD., a Level 1 B-BBEEE contributor, was established in 2006.
INNOVATION TO THE CORE | 2006 – 2017
The GEOGROUP has consistently invested in new technology to enhance the precision and efficiency of its services:
- Sonic Drilling Technology: In 2013, the Group embraced sonic drilling technology, dramatically increasing efficiency and accuracy for challenging overburden and environmental projects.
- Geotechnical Instrumentation: That same year, the acquisition of TERRA MONITORING established a specialist division dedicated to the supply, installation, and long-term monitoring of Geotechnical Instrumentation. This critical service allows for the continuous assessment of ground and structural behaviour.
- In-Situ Testing: Innovation continued with the addition of Cone Penetration Testing (CPTu) and Seismic CPTu (S-CPTu) to our portfolio in 2017. These advanced in-situ testing techniques provide vital, high-resolution soil behaviour data, essential for informed foundation and earthworks design.
