At the GeoGroup, the safety of our staff is not merely a formality, it’s a fundamental principle of our operations. When it comes to geotechnical investigations, exploration drilling, in-situ testing or installing geotechnical monitoring equipment, every project begins long before we first break ground. From the first kick-off meeting to the first day of drilling, we meticulously plan to mitigate the health and safety challenges that each individual site poses.

We believe that being detailed in our preparation speaks volumes, not only to our clients but also to our staff. Preparation usually starts with a detailed site assessment. On some projects we even had to assess the noise levels of our drill rigs to manage the audio impact on the environment. Our drill sites are clearly demarcated with high visibility mesh fencing and safety signage to inform the public to be cautious of the area which clearly states the contact details of both the supervisor and the person who is responsible for the health and safety for the project.

Compliance is a non-negotiable standard for our team. Whether we are meeting the strict requirements set out by various mines or adhering to any client specifications, our protocols remain uncompromising. This dedication to safety also extends to our fleet of vehicles, drill rigs, and equipment. Ensuring they are compliant with the project’s requirements.

Our HSE department, led by Director Barry Kruger, alongside Georges du Val and Cathy Molobi, acts as a vital gear in the GeoGroup machine. This team ensures that all our staff members remain up to date with their medicals and any additional training courses. They are responsible for compiling and tracking the daily on site Toolbox-Talks run by site supervision and to discuss important safety topics and risk assessments with crews before work commence every day. From providing the correct PPE to our crews, to navigating complex regulatory statutes, they establish the action plans that keep us compliant whenever and wherever we work while making sure an approved safety file is always available on site.
