Driven Ductile Iron Pile Solutions

Driven Ductile Iron Pile Solutions

Geopile Africa specialises in the design, supply and installation of driven ductile iron piling solutions for a wide range of structures.  Typical projects include Buildings, Bridges, Silos/Tanks, Electrical Transmission Lines, Concentrated Solar Power plants (mirrors and wind fences), Sewerage works structures, soil retaining structures and many more.

The Saint Gobain ductile iron piling system from Germany is a safe, fast, simple, modern and universally usable prefabricated driven piling system which requires little preparation of site working platforms, and allows access to the most difficult working conditions, ranging from sites with head room as low as 4.5m to congested, fully active sites.

As the ductile iron piling system is extremely versatile and adaptable, even when unexpected geotechnical conditions are encountered, the risk of significant disruptions to the piling program is effectively eliminated.

With help from our sister company – Geomechanics, who offer a full array of percussion pre-drilling – we can offer solutions to problematic soil profiles where driven piles alone are not sufficient.

Programme and Cost savings

  • Fast installation (up to 400 m/rig/day)
  • Can be installed for end-bearing or skin friction performance
  • Guaranteed load performance - End bearing piles are driven to refusal at almost three times their working load thus ensuring proper end bearing load transfer
  • Minimal piling platform preparation
  • No pile head trimming post-installation
  • Spigot and socket joint system, uses the energy of the hammer and the geometry of the joint to “cold weld” and quickly join pile sections.
  • Serviceability compression loads of up 1100kN.
  • Tension loads are transferred by suitable reinforcing steel, concreted in the full depth of the pile
  • Low vibration (less than 2mm/s peak particle velocity) means that the system can be used near sensitive structures
  • No spoil and no waste
  • Usage of light and standard equipment
  • Environmentally friendly (made from 100% recycled materials and very low concrete requirements)
  • Can be used where geotechnical soil analyses is limited (gives information on soil profile by penetration rate of pile)
  • Safer working method and safer equipment using less labour
  • Flexible pile depths - 0.5m - unlimited depth.
  • Each pile is shock and corrosion resistant and fully load tested during installation
  • Allowance is made for wall thickness loss due to corrosion for working life cycle of up to 100 years

Less Risks

  • Safer working method and safer equipment using less labour
  • Flexible pile depths. End bearing piles are driven to refusal at almost three times their working load thus ensuring proper end bearing load transfer
  • Each pile is shock and corrosion resistant
  • Each pile is fully load tested during installation - the Atlas Copco HB2000 hammer used by Geopile Africa produces 2680kN/blow, 300 times/minute.

Bloemfontein Central Park Shopping Centre

Very tight access piling, as close as 30cm from existing column, with limited headroom of 2.5m in places.  28 end-bearing piles were installed to depths between 8-10m in only two days on site.
